Engineering Jobs
If you are looking for a job in engineering then you will be pleased to know that there are many areas where you could work and many great companies too. Companies such as CIS (Conductor Insulation Services) pride themselves on offering fantastic opportunities to engineering graduates. A job in engineering will require you to have mathematical skills and some scientific experience too. When it comes to engineering jobs you will probably be in one of the following categories chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering. The aim of the engineer is to look at problems and try to design and create solutions which will make the world a better place. However the engineer will also have to be able to come up with a solution that will be cost effective in the long run.Mechanical EngineersIf you have been trained in mechanical engineering then you will know how to design mechanical system and will have practice in doing so. There are many types of system that the mechanical engineer will work on such as weapons systems, power systems, kinematic chains, aircraft, transportation products, vacuum technology and vibration isolation for example.
Electrical EngineersThe electrical engineer works on electrical systems and items such as computers, electronic circuits, telecommunications, electromagnetic devices, electronic devices, fibre optics, circuits and generators. Civil EngineersCivil engineers work at creating and maintaining certain structures that the public will use on a daily basis although they may also work on privately owned structures. Things like water treatment systems, bridges, railroads, water supply, roads and large buildings are what civil engineers look after. Chemical EngineersThe chemical engineer works with things like new fuels and is in charge of chemical processing. Many chemical engineers are working on a way to create sustainable fuels that will be better for the environment. In order to get a job with a company like CIS, you will have to work hard and achieve certain grades. You will have to quality in the field of engineering.
The amount of university education you require will depend on which field of engineering you want to enter. There is another engineering field which is developing at the moment but is still quite new and that is software engineering. This is when the engineer works with software systems in order to make them cheaper and better. Which Field to ChooseYour own interests will help to determine which field of engineering you should choose. You need to think about which area you are better at and which area you enjoy more. It is wise to choose something that you are good at but you will also want to enjoy your job so choosing something that you like is equally important.
What It Takes To Work in Subsea Engineering
The subsea engineering profession is a demanding one and it takes a lot of dedication and commitment on behalf of the professionals to ensure the success of the industry. In order to work in this profession, individuals need to be aware of what is going to be expected of them once they leave the comfort of their universities and begin their lives out in the field.
This type of engineering focuses of the procurement of gas and oil from the ocean before distributing it to industries around the world. This is not the only function of this area of engineering but it is the most prominent one. In order to get work, professionals need to seek out areas of the industry where there is work available. Since these resources are so beneficial, it is the one industry in the world that continues to flourish no matter what social or political conditions the area is under.
A Thorough Understand Of Maths and Science
Maths and science are two subjects that an individual needs to understand before they can begin working in this field. In order to successfully complete the range of projects that the professional will come across, calculations will need to be completed in an accurate and efficient manner. Incorrect calculations could be catastrophic to a project.
In order to practice this profession a, a graduate will need to ensure that he or she has the appropriate licence and has completed an internship at the appropriate subsea engineering company. The internship will provide the graduate with the knowledge that he or she needs to perform the tasks that will be expected of him or her in the field. Without this practical knowledge, the theoretical knowledge will not be sufficient.
Communication skills are an important part of working in the subsea engineering industry. Individuals will be constantly expected to work as a team and it is important to ensure that projects run smoothly by communicating with team members. Another important personal skill is the ability to adapt to a variety of different environments. These types of engineers travel very often and they are usually exposed to a variety of different conditions. Adapting quickly will ensure that the environmental changes do not affect the quality of the engineer’s work.
As technology continues to advance, it is important that professionals update their computer skills on a regular basis. The technology that is used within this field is often controlled through computers and without sufficient knowledge of these items, professionals will not be able to work in this field and they could end up being left behind. Professionals need to evolve with the technology and this is a constant learning process.
Types of Engineering
Most engineering companies – like Claxton Engineering – have a specialist field. If not, as is the case with larger companies, they have specialist arms/ departments of the specialist fields in engineering.
The first specialist field is chemical engineering. This is where current chemicals are used and manipulated to make new, innovative chemicals for use in other industries. This includes producing new types of fuels, or improving existing types of fuels. An example of this is the quest for finding a pollution free fuel for motor vehicles. There is already a lead-free alternative, but the carbon emissions are still unacceptably high. Chemical engineers are also responsible for finding alternative energy sources to replace natural gas, coal etc.
Next is civil engineering. Civil engineers construct and build structures such as roads, railways, bridges and buildings. This is done for both the private and the public sector. Many spectacular bridges have been designed and built by civil engineers. They can also take credit for many wonderful highways and routes under lakes, rivers and the ocean.
The third specialist field is that of electrical engineering. This involves the study of anything electronic and designing new electronic products. It is a very broad specialist field and would include subjects such as electromagnetism, circuits, generators, motors etc. These engineers bring us computer-boxes for our modern cars, energy efficient generators and heaters etc. There are many things in this field that go unnoticed in everyday life, but are essential to maintain life as we know it.
Finally there is mechanical engineering. This field looks at the design of mechanical or physical systems. Aerospace and aircraft components also fall under this category of engineering, as do weapons and transportation products. It is also quite a broad field, but quite specific in its application.
There is some dispute about other branches of engineering that were traditionally considered main branches. Among these are naval engineering as well as mining engineering. However, these fields overlap considerably with the four main fields and can therefore not be considered a main branch of engineering anymore. Yet, there are new directions in engineering that look promising and may become a main branch of this discipline in the future.
Engineering is an important part of our lives. In fact, our very lives depend on the competence of engineers. Every time you ride over a bridge in a car or work on a computer, you are dealing with the product of engineering. The science and math that goes into producing these products are awesome and the dedication with which engineers work in order to improve daily life is commendable. It’s impossible to ever again take the feats of progress for granted.
